Description:
In 1941 Republic thrilled audiences with perhaps the best jungle serial every produced . This thrilling adventure was based loosely on the famous novel "Jungle Girl" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It starred the very beautiful Frances Gifford as Nyoka, with Tom Neal as the male hero Jack Stanton, and Trevor Bardette and Gerald Mohr as their villainous adversaries. Jungle Girl was packed with thrilling cliffhangers as opposing sides fought from chapter to chapter for a fortune in diamonds hidden in the African jungle. With both Helen Thurston and David Sharpe providing incredible stunt work, Gifford was able to swing through the jungle on vines with the agility of Tarzan, dive from cliffs into alligator-filled lakes, wrestle with man-eating lions, and battle quicksand and poison gas throughout all fifteen exciting episodes! Now re-mastered from a newly discovered 35mm master positive print. Bonus Features: Photo Gallery| Biographies| Chapter Menu. Specs: 2-DVD9s; Dolby Digital Mono; 267 minutes; B&W; 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio; MPAA - NR; Year - 1941; SRP - $19.99.

Customer Reviews: Average Rating:

Rating : - Hokey. Unbelievable. No story. Not like Tarzan.

The natives are all white guys wearing black, afro wigs. The good guys are stealing the diamonds from the natives, so we cheer for the natives. None of the characters have any personality, none are likeable. One guy is wearing a suit and tie, supposedly in Africa, running around without breaking a sweat. Jungle Girl wears a dress brand new from a New York department store with a little stitching added. The script has no story of interest, and no story, just the natives chasing jungle girl around, again, again, and again. As aimless and hokey as it gets, unbelievable, and a complete waste of money. The people rating this film five stars have to be the people selling it. I'd rather have dental work without Novocain than watch this film. One feels dumber after just a few minutes watching this film. How quickly you turn it off is a test of intelligence.

I gave the Johnny Weissmuller "Tarzan" films five stars. "Jungle Girl" has absolutely nothing in common with the Tarzan films.
