Customer Reviews: Average Rating:

Rating : - sharp, functional, and easy on the eyes
My previous G-shock lasted 8 years and it is still going strong with only one battery replacement. My previous watch's longevity and durability led me to get a newer and trendier version of the G-Shock because I am transiting from college to the work force. What is great about this watch is that it is both rugged and looks nice. Watches are subjective to taste, but I liked the stainless steel time marks and the combination of analog and digital time keeping.

My favorite feature about the watch is the solar charging feature, which means you will never have to worry about replacing your battery unless something unexpected happens. The weather in my area is very cloudy from October to April and I was worried there wouldn't be enough light to keep the battery charged. I was wrong because the watch has displayed a "High Battery Level" status ever since I took it out of the box.

My second favorite feature about the watch is the atomic time keeping because you never have to worry about adjusting or setting the proper time. Having the correct time has always been important to me because I'm anal about it and getting to class and meetings on time is a high priority for me.

The watch has an interesting layout of four display windows. The arched display is used to show various alarms, atomic signal strength, and power saving status. The arched display is very clever in design and shows settings that are buried in the various menus. The display at the 3 o'clock mark shows which menu you're in and the 9 o'clock mark is for displaying current time information. What I like the most about the display windows is how you can show the time and date in various combinations. For example the date may appear in the 9 o'clock window and the day may be shown in the 6 o'clock window. Bottom line is you'd have to read the manual before discovering all the option built into this watch.

The auto-light mode is a pretty cool idea that I haven't played with because of the possibility of draining down the battery while wearing long-sleeves or jackets. The watch has the ability to figure out if the watch is pointed at your face, which it then turns on the illuminator if there isn't enough light to read it. Also, I'm never sure how to gage the term "water-resistant" because you can supposedly dive and swim with it. Being a swimmer I'd like to test the theory out, but I'll probably pass on the idea because it is too nice of a watch to risk ruining.

I do have a few grips about the watch. The navigation screen just above the 6 o'clock mark is a bit small and makes it difficult to use the alarm and timer functions. The big hand may also block the view of the 6 o'clock display so you'll have to look around the hand in order to set your alarm or timer. The big hand may also block the other views, which can be frustrating if you are configuring your watch. Another suggestion is that they should have made the big and small hands stainless steel like the tick marks for better aesthetic continuity. Otherwise, the Casio G-Shock is a solid watch and I looked at dozens of watches out and none compared to the functionality and classy looks of the GW1310A. I wrote a long review so you get a full picture of what you're getting before you decide to spend serious money on a watch. I don't regret getting it and you shouldn't too!
